Why Runners Get Hip Pain
Hip pain can come from several structures:
Hip flexor overuse
Glute weakness
Tendon irritation
Poor control during single-leg tasks
Common Patterns
Pain at the front = hip flexor, joint capsule or tendon overload
Pain on the side = glute med irritation
Pain deep in the hip = joint irritation
Inner hip = groin tendon or hernia
What Helps?
Strengthen glutes (bridges, hip thrusts, side lying leg lifts)
Improve single-leg control (SL squats, banded hip work)
Reduce speed work and volume temporarily - allow symptoms to settle
Gentle mobility if stiff
When to Seek Help
If hip pain affects your stride or worsens over 2–3 weeks.
